Upload with AI

Follow these simple steps to send a lichen observation to Lichenary. You do not need to identify the lichen yourself — the AI will help you.

AI
You only need three things A clear photograph of the lichen, your location, and a short description of the place. Lichenary will take care of the AI identification.
1

Take a good photo

Find the lichen and take a clear, close photograph. Make sure the lichen is visible, in focus, and not covered by your hand or another object.

You can tap Take Photo to use your phone camera, or Upload from Phone if you already have the photograph.

2

Turn on your location

Lichenary needs your GPS location so the observation can be placed on the map. When the website asks for permission, choose Allow.

iOS (iPhone / iPad)

  1. Open SettingsPrivacy & SecurityLocation Services.
  2. Make sure Location Services is ON.
  3. Find your browser, such as Safari or Chrome.
  4. Select While Using the App.
  5. Turn on Precise Location if available.
  6. If using Safari, also check Settings → Apps → Safari → Location and choose Allow or Ask.

  2. Make sure Use location is ON.

Important: GPS does NOT track you continuously. Lichenary only requests your location for the observation when you enable GPS. The coordinates recorded are the location detected at that time. Lichenary does not receive a history of where you have travelled.

Take the photo at the observation site whenever possible. If you take the photograph in one place and upload it later somewhere else, the browser's GPS location will normally be the place where you are when GPS is requested — not automatically the place where the photograph was taken.

Tell us exactly where you are

Write a short description in the Specific Place box. You can write something simple such as:

“Tineretului Park, near the old church”

GPS gives the coordinates. This text gives other people a useful description of the exact spot.

4

Let AI identify the lichen

Once your photo and GPS are ready, press Analyze Lichen with AI.

Your photo AI analysis Species Pollution indicator

The AI will suggest the lichen species and Lichenary will use its database to find the corresponding pollution indicator.

5

Check it and submit

Look at the AI result. If everything looks correct, press Submit Observation.

The AI identification is a suggestion, not a guarantee. Your observation can still be reviewed before it is approved.
